AMR Intervarsity Training Program

Nigeria

A youth-centered capacity building program for undergraduate students in Nigeria.

Generously funded by The Foundation to Prevent Antibiotics Resistance, AMR Intervarsity Training Program is aimed at reinforcing the knowledge of AMR among tertiary students, so that they can actively engage in AMR awareness and advocacy, promote the rightful use of antimicrobials, mitigate the spread and development of AMR and strengthen AMR stewardship.

The program would in addition establish multidisciplinary AMR Clubs in 24 tertiary institutions across the country, offering a coveted avenue for more youth involvement in AMR campaigns across tertiary institutions in the country.

Objectives

Our program aims to:

  • To familiarize students with the concept of AMR, Antimicrobial Stewardship and One Health

  • To equip students with the knowledge and skills, imperative for AMR advocacy

  • To prepare the students as future public health leaders, pioneering innovative solutions to tackle antimicrobial resistance

  • To promote sustainability in raising awareness about AMR in campuses and the host community through education, campaign, advocacy, and social events

  • To establish a platform for nurturing, training and retraining AMR Youth Champions who will lead the fight against AMR

  • To foster multidisciplinary collaboration to address AMR through clinical, basic and social science approaches

  • To provide platform for promoting and supporting research, innovation, and interventions aimed at combating AMR threats at both local and international levels

  • To create awareness about AMR in rural and urban communities

  • To promote communal adoption and practice of effective infection prevention and control

  • To advocate with the intent of curbing the wave of antimicrobial abuse

  • To encourage behavioural changes; empowering communities to make the right choices in antimicrobial consumption
